the right + wrong way to wash your face

The face is one of the most important parts of the body. It is your identity and the first thing that shows people who you are. So wouldn’t you want to be sure that you are keeping it looking and feeling its best? recurrent is here to help you do that.

Caring for some of the most sensitive skin on your body can be a challenge so let’s take it step by step.

  1. When should you be washing your face?

You should be washing your face daily. Ideally once, right before bed. Soap can be very drying for your skin so keeping the washing to a minimum helps prevent annoying flaky or irritated skin. Doing it right before bed rids you of the dirt and sweat that has collected on your face throughout the day (yum) and allows you to wake up in the morning quite literally fresh-faced. If you play a sport or get sweaty during the day and you feel the need to wash your face go for it, but try not to exceed a twice a day in order to protect your skin.

  1. How should you be washing your face?

You may think we’re kidding, but there really is a technique to it. Make sure you don’t over soap. You may think you need more soap than you do because a smaller amount of soap applied directly to the face looks like it won’t cover your whole face, that is why you should first use some water and foam up the soap on your hands before applying it to the face. Be sure to use lukewarm water (not cold, and definitely not hot) to lather your face with the soap and lightly rub it all over the face. Rinse off ALL of the soap, and be careful not to leave soap residue before patting your face dry with a clean towel.

  1. What are you doing wrong?

There are a few common mistakes that many people are making when they wash their faces that we’re here to help you avoid. As we mentioned over soaping is not good for you and can contribute to dry skin. Some dermatologists warn against using exfoliates or scrubbing your face aggressively with your hands or a washcloth due to the sensitivity of skin and the fact that it can lead to irritation. This advice also extends to drying your face; you want to pat the skin dry rather than rubbing it after washing.

Following these tips and using recurrent’s gentle yet effective face wash can protect your skin while keeping it clean and help you put your best face forward.
